Accreditation Mentoring for the Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program, FKG UGM

Accreditation mentoring for the Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), was conducted by assessors from the Oral Medicine Collegium, namely Prof. Dr. drg. Ima Sufiawati, Sp.PM., Subsp.Inf.Im, and Dr. drg. Indriasti Indah Wardhany, Sp.P.M., Subsp.Inf.Im. The arrival of the assessors on 27 October 2025 was directly received by the Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., along with the FKG UGM Deanery, the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine, FKG UGM, Prof. Dr. drg. Dewi Agustina, MD.Sc., MD.Sc., and the academic community of FKG UGM. In his welcoming remarks, the Dean of FKG UGM stated, “Our hope is that this can also provide benefits for FKG UGM stakeholders, in addition to shortening the duration of education and contributing positively to society. Having creativity and innovation is essential. Therefore, these are creative and innovative steps that serve as solutions to problems faced by the community. Some time ago, I visited Lamandau Regional General Hospital (RSUD Lamandau). In Lamandau Regency, there is one regional hospital with 12 community health centers (Puskesmas). The number of dentists in the hospital is still insufficient. Out of the 12 Puskesmas, only one has a dentist. This is a real portrait of society regarding the unequal distribution of medical personnel, especially dentists. We may always strive to reach great heights, but we must never forget to stay firmly rooted,” explained the Dean of FKG UGM.

Idealism is acceptable as long as it provides impact to society. UGM bears the responsibility for the development of health services on the island of Kalimantan. FKG UGM has also begun communication and coordination with the government to support the Kalimantan region within the next year. The expectation is that what has been established within that one-year period can be facilitated to ease the acceptance and placement of specialist doctors from FKG UGM. This must be jointly pursued together with the Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program so that appropriate facilitation can be achieved.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. drg. Ima Sufiawati, Sp.PM., Subsp.Inf.Im, from the Oral Medicine Collegium, stated in her remarks that the purpose of this monitoring and evaluation activity is to develop programs and relate them to the fourth domain, progressing in an aggressive and forward manner. “Two years ago we came here for the opening of this study program. Now we can see that over nearly two years, it has developed,” said Prof. Ima. Representatives from the Oral Medicine Collegium are tasked with monitoring the learning process, operations, and several aspects that must be carried out by the Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program, such as innovation and institutional collaboration, particularly in conducting health consultations and family socialization programs.

drg. Hendri Susanto, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.PM., as the Head of the Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program at FKG UGM, emphasized that the main vision of this study program is to produce oral medicine specialist dentists who focus on interdisciplinary geriatric patient care. “This demonstrates the study program’s commitment to producing specialist dentists with specific expertise in caring for the elderly population through collaborative approaches across various health disciplines,” said drg. Hendri.

The Oral Medicine Specialist Study Program at FKG UGM received minimum accreditation in January 2024. This minimum accreditation is an initial status granted by LAMPT-Kes to newly established study programs and is valid for two years. According to the schedule, this study program will undergo re-accreditation in February 2026 to obtain definitive and higher accreditation status.
