Dr. Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Samarinda held the opening ceremony for the Comprehensive Social Service for Cleft Lip and Palate on 25 September 2024. This event was organized in collaboration with the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of East Kalimantan Province. The initiative aims to address children's health issues, improve access to healthcare services, and support education and disability reduction, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In his opening remarks, Dr. David Hariadi Masjhoer, Sp.OT MKM, Director of RSUD Dr. Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie, emphasized the importance of partnerships in providing care for children with cleft lip and palate. “This initiative is not only about medical treatment but also about creating a supportive environment for children with cleft lip and palate,” said Dr. David.
Specialist dentists and residents from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), played a significant role in providing medical care and postoperative education. Additionally, pediatric dentistry residents from UGM were involved in an educational campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of early intervention and reducing the stigma surrounding this condition. “We want to ensure that families not only understand postoperative care but also the importance of maintaining long-term dental health,” stated Drg. Arif Rahman Setyawan.
The collaboration between RSUD Dr. Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie, BAZNAS, and UGM is expected to be a sustainable effort in improving access to healthcare services in East Kalimantan. This partnership aligns with FKG UGM’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
