Participation of KGA Residents in BKGN 2024 Screening

Residents from the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), actively contributed to dental health screenings during National Dental Health Month (BKGN) 2024, held from 17-19 December 2024, at the FKG UGM campus. This event aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of oral health while providing education to support sustainability in healthcare.

The screening process assessed participants' dental conditions, including the need for fillings, extractions, or tartar cleaning. KGA residents collaborated with lecturers to conduct comprehensive dental examinations, provide immediate feedback, and recommend appropriate follow-up treatments based on each participant’s needs.

In addition, educational sessions were held as part of the event. The residents delivered presentations on proper oral hygiene practices, the importance of regular dental check-ups, and strategies for maintaining long-term oral health. These educational activities aimed to enhance public awareness about the importance of oral health in improving overall quality of life.

For the residents, this event provided a valuable opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting while also enhancing their communication and professional skills. drg. Arif Rahman expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to contribute directly to the community. This event not only benefits the participants but also enriches our experience as future dental health professionals.”

The collaboration between FKG UGM and various stakeholders in this screening highlights the importance of teamwork in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By ensuring equitable access to dental healthcare, delivering high-quality education, and strengthening cross-sector partnerships, FKG UGM supports the achievement of: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through accessible dental healthcare; SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing health education; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaborations for shared public health objectives.
