IKGA Department’s Participation in UGM Community Service Kick-Off

The Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) participated in the kick-off event for UGM’s community service initiative, which took place on 8 November 2024, at PT. Pagilaran, Batang, Central Java. The event was attended by students and lecturers from the Specialist Dental Education Program (PPDGS) at FKG UGM.

The kick-off event marked the beginning of various community service activities focused on improving public health, particularly children's health. In his opening speech, Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., UGM’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, emphasized the importance of community service in both student development and its positive impact on the community.

"Collaboration between educational institutions and civil society is key to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the health sector," said Dr. Sujito.

From PPDGS FKG UGM, Prof. Drg. Sri Kuswandari, MS, Sp.KGA(K-KKA), Ph.D., reiterated the commitment to improving access to affordable pediatric dental care. She highlighted that oral health is often overlooked, despite its significant impact on children's overall well-being.

"Through this program, we aim to provide real solutions to pediatric oral health problems, helping to reduce the risk of untreated diseases that can have severe consequences," said Prof. Kuswandari.

The strategic partnership with PT. Pagilaran enables the utilization of local resources to support the success of this initiative. With a collaborative approach, this program is expected to create a long-term impact and raise public awareness of the importance of children’s health.

By participating in this event, FKG UGM actively supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. This initiative reflects UGM’s commitment to making a tangible contribution to improving community well-being in Batang, Central Java.
