Heribertus Dedy Kusuma Yulianto was born in Yogyakarta on 23 July 1978. He graduated from the Dentistry program in 2004. He pursued a Master's in Biomedical Engineering through the Casecube program (Common Asia Europe Curriculum on Biomedical Engineering), which included participants from five countries: Indonesia and India representing Asia, and Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands representing Europe. He completed his Master's program in two years, graduating in 2008.
After completing his Master's degree, he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). In addition to his role as a permanent lecturer, he is also an active clinician at RSGM UGM Prof. Soedomo. As a clinician, he developed an interest in studying biofilm and its relevance to biomaterials, leading him to pursue a Doctoral degree at the University Medical Centre of Groningen, Netherlands, which he completed in 2017 after four years of study.

He has been a lecturer in the Doctoral program at the Faculty of Dentistry since 2019 and in the Master's program in Biomedical Engineering at the UGM Graduate School since 2020. He is actively engaged in research in microbiology, biomaterials, surface treatment technology, and surface coating techniques through grant programs and collaborative research projects. His research has resulted in several publications in national and international journals, one patent for a portable contact angle measurement device developed with colleagues at the Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, and another for an oral cavity simulation device currently being submitted.
In addition to his roles in education and research, he actively participates in community service activities in collaboration with various domestic institutions and industries through programs focused on community empowerment, mitigating the environmental impact on health, and preventive and curative oral health measures.
Beyond his primary duties in education, research, and community service, he is involved in several other academic activities, including serving as an auditor for Internal Quality Audit (AMI) and as the head of quality assurance in the Biomedical Engineering program at the UGM Graduate School. He is also a reviewer for the Tekno Sains Journal at the UGM Graduate School, a manuscript reviewer for the international BioMic seminar regularly organized by UGM, and for the Malaysian Journal of Medicine & Health Sciences. Additionally, he has been a supervisor for physical-mechanical testing at the Integrated Research Laboratory, Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, since 2018, overseeing tests such as Micro-hardness, Surface Roughness, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Universal Testing Machine (UTM).
He also plays a significant role in national-level committees, specifically in organizing competency exams for prospective dentists, a requirement for graduation from dental education institutions in Indonesia, through his involvement with the national committee for the Indonesian Dental Competency Examination (PN UKMP2DG) since 2015.
