drg. Heni Susilowati, M.Kes., Ph.D., PBO, is a lecturer at the Department of Oral Biology, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Medicine degree (SKG) in 1996 from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and completed her dentist profession education at the same institution in 1997. Starting her career as an assistant lecturer in 1998, she pursued her Master's degree in the Postgraduate Program at FKG UGM in 2021, followed by her doctoral studies in the field of dental sciences at the Institute of Health Biosciences, Tokushima University Graduate School, Japan, completing it in 2008. She obtained her expertise certification in Oral Biology from the Indonesian Dental Association in 2018.
Upon returning from her studies, she served as the Head of the Department of Oral Biology at FKG UGM from 2010 to 2015 and 2016 to 2020. Additionally, she was Head of the Library Unit at FKG UGM from 2009 to 2015 and Head of the Integrated Research Laboratory at FKG UGM from 2017 to 2022. In 2022, she was appointed Chair of the Dental Learning Center (DLC) Management Ad Hoc Committee and has served as the Coordinator of the Dental Learning Center UGM since 2023. The Dentistry Skills Development Center program, initiated in 2022, and the establishment of the Oral Cancer Working Group in DLC in 2023 are notable contributions.
Her research career began in 2000 through various national and international funding schemes. Her research focuses on oral microbiology, immunology, and cell biology, particularly cellular and molecular responses to a broad spectrum of oral bacteria, including the oral commensal Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Her interest led her to receive the Fuji Otsuka Research Fellowship program in Japan in 2014. Additionally, she has served as a national research reviewer in Health since 2011 and as an external research reviewer at several public universities. She remains actively involved in publishing articles in reputable national and international journals as a reviewer.
As a researcher, she specializes in molecular biology techniques related to gene expression and target proteins. Currently, she focuses on immunofluorescence techniques as a valid method for detecting protein markers within cells, determining their locations, and their interactions with other target protein molecules. These methods have resulted in publications in reputable international journals. Furthermore, she had the opportunity to participate in competency development programs as a researcher, such as the Overseas Training Equipment for SEM at JEOL Asia Pte, Ltd. – Tokyo in 2022.
