Mrs. Dewi Agustina has been a lecturer in the Department of Oral Medicine (formerly known as Oral Medicine) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) since 1989. She completed her undergraduate (S1) and Dentist Profession degree (FKG UGM, 1987), followed by her Master's degree (School of Dental Science, Melbourne University, Australia, 1996, and Oral Medicine Interest Program, Faculty of Dentistry UGM, 2012), and finally her Ph.D. (S3) at UGM in 2007, all with honors (cum laude).
Her research focus for her Master's thesis (Melbourne University) and Ph.D. was oral carcinogenesis using animal models. Her Master's thesis (FKG UGM) concentrated on oral health in older people. Her current scholarly focus is Geriatric Oral Medicine, a subfield of Oral Medicine that examines oromaxillofacial disorders in the elderly, considering local and systemic factors and their management.
Since 2010, she has developed a keen interest in studying and researching Geriatric Dentistry, particularly focusing on topics related to xerostomia-hyposalivation and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL). Her research findings have been widely published in reputable national and international scientific journals. Since 2014, she has been actively presenting on Geriatric Dentistry at scientific meetings organized by Geriatrics Associations and Oral Medicine/Dentistry Associations in various countries, funded by UGM.
She has been a guest speaker/Invited Speaker at local, national, and international scientific meetings in Indonesia, discussing topics related to Oral Medicine, Geriatric Dentistry, and Dentistry in general.
Throughout her education at the undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. levels, she received educational grants from the Indonesian and Australian governments (AIDAB). Her research funding has come from various sources, including RISBIN Iptekdok, Integrated Superior Research, Competitive Grants, FKG UGM Community Fund, UGM (RTA, Academic Excellence), and Higher Education Outstanding Research Grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
She has received awards such as the Satyalancana Karya Satya for 10, 20, and 30 years of service from the Indonesian government and the Loyalty Award for 25 years from the UGM Rector. Mrs. Dewi is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and Professional Dental programs, Dental Hygiene, Specialty Programs, Master's, and Ph.D. programs at FKG UGM and other faculties within UGM. She supervises and examines final projects (theses and dissertations).
Currently, she serves as the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine at FKG UGM, Head of the Integrated Geriatric Clinic Services at RSGM UGM Prof. Soedomo, a reviewer for Higher Education Research, and Managing Editor of the Journal of Oral Health Care at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health in Yogyakarta. Regarding Community Service, Mrs. Dewi regularly educates older people about oral health. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling and swimming for relaxation.
