FKG UGM Doctoral Students Participate in Indonesia Education Scholarship (BPI) Study Preparation Program

Yogyakarta – Thursday, 7 November 2024 , Doctoral (PhD) students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), who are recipients of the Indonesia Education Scholarship (BPI), attended a study preparation program organized by the Education Funding Service Center (Puslapdik) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). The event was held at the Education Quality Assurance Center (BPMP) in Yogyakarta and aimed to prepare scholarship recipients for a successful doctoral journey while maximizing their academic and personal potential.

The program featured multiple sessions covering topics such as BPI scholarship benefits, time management strategies, and academic challenges at the doctoral level. Additionally, participants received insights into career opportunities and personal development pathways available during and after their studies. Puslapdik Kemendikbudristek emphasized the importance of non-academic skills such as leadership, communication, and self-management, which are crucial for success in both academic and professional settings.

The Indonesia Education Scholarship (BPI) is a government initiative designed to enhance higher education quality in Indonesia by providing financial support. BPI recipients are expected to contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and society, particularly in their respective fields of study. This program aims to equip FKG UGM’s PhD students with the motivation and readiness to excel in their doctoral studies and further develop dental science in Indonesia.

Beyond informative sessions, the event included interactive workshops where students engaged with experienced mentors and alumni who shared personal experiences and success stories. These interactions provided valuable networking opportunities and practical insights into the realities of pursuing a PhD.

Education plays a vital role in driving innovation and economic growth, particularly in developing countries. The BPI program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and high-quality education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities. By investing in future leaders and professionals, Indonesia is making significant strides toward achieving global educational goals.

Moreover, this event highlighted the critical role of higher education in addressing societal challenges, particularly in healthcare. As future dental professionals, PhD students are expected to contribute to improving dental care in Indonesia, which is essential for overall public health. The knowledge and skills acquired during their studies will empower them to create a positive impact within their communities.

At the end of the event, students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this comprehensive preparation program. Many noted that the insights gained would be invaluable in navigating the complexities of doctoral studies and beyond. Their enthusiasm and determination reflect a promising future for dental science in Indonesia.

The BPI study preparation program at UGM serves as a vital stepping stone for the next generation of dental professionals. By equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program not only enhances their academic journey but also contributes to broader goals of improving education and healthcare outcomes in Indonesia.
