Andreas Tjandra, drg., Sp.Perio, FISID, a PhD student in Dental Sciences from the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated in the 50th Anniversary of the Periodontology Department of Yonsei University. The event, titled “The 50th Golden Jubilee Symposium of Yonsei-Perio” took place at the Eunmyung Auditorium, Severance Hospital, Yonsei University, South Korea, on Sunday, 18 August 2024.
The symposium, celebrating five decades of Yonsei University’s Periodontology Department, was attended by key stakeholders, including the department's chair, professors, lecturers, alumni, and dental experts from various countries.
The event featured a series of academic conferences led by prominent professors and dental professionals. The first session addressed current concepts in periodontal treatment, with presentations by Prof. Emer. Chong-Kwan Kim and Prof. Chang-Sung Kim from Yonsei University, and Prof. Mariano Sanz from Complutense University of Madrid.
The second session focused on hard tissue regeneration, with Prof. Emer. Jung-Kyu Chai and Prof. Jung-Seok Lee from Yonsei University, along with Prof. Reinhard Gruber from the University of Vienna, presenting their insights.
In the third session, Prof. Eun-Kyoung Pang from Ewha University, Prof. Dr. Daniel Thomas from the University of Zurich, Prof. Ignacio Sanz-Martin from Complutense University of Madrid, and Prof. Jae-Kook Cha from Yonsei University discussed peri-implant tissue optimization.
The final session featured a discussion on bone regeneration, led by Prof. Emer. Kyoo-Sung Cho and Prof. Ui-Won Jung, D.D.S., Ph.D., from Yonsei University, alongside Prof. Dr. Ronald Jung from the University of Zurich.
According to Andreas Tjandra, "Participating in this event has been a valuable experience, deepening my knowledge, particularly in periodontology." He also expressed his gratitude to the PhD program at UGM’s Faculty of Dentistry for providing the opportunity to attend this event.
Tjandra’s participation in the symposium aligns with UGM’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and research in the field of dentistry and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
