A PhD student from the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) participated in the Yonsei-Zurich Advanced Implant Course held at Yonsei University on Friday, 16 August 2024. The student, drg. Andreas Tjandra, Sp.Perio, FISID, joined the event alongside professors, periodontology experts, and dentists from various countries.
The event began with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Daniel Thomas from the University of Zurich, covering guided implant placementvirtual planning, implant placement and loading as well as prosthodontic considerations in applying a digital workflow and restoration vs delayed loading in partial edentulous cases.
Prof. Jung-Seok Lee, D.D.S., Ph.D., Head of the Periodontology Department at Yonsei University, discussed soft tissue management for guided bone regeneration (GBR), while Prof. Dr. Ronald Jung from the University of Zurich gave an online presentation on Ridge Preservation and timing strategies for implants following tooth extraction.
The course also featured a live surgery demonstration led by Prof. Ui-Won Jung, D.D.S., Ph.D., from Yonsei University, showcasing guided implant placement and simultaneous GBR in the aesthetic zone. The seminar concluded with hands-on training by Jin-Young Park, focusing on various incision and suturing techniques.
According to Andreas Tjandra, the course enriched the clinical skills of participants, who are expected to apply the knowledge in dental practice in Indonesia. "Attending this event has been a valuable experience for me to advance my expertise in Indonesia," Andreas said. He also expressed his gratitude to the PhD Program in Dental Science at FKG UGM for giving him the opportunity to attend the event.
Participation in this seminar is seen as supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in improving health and well-being (SDG 3) and ensuring quality education (SDG 4).
