Hilmy Irsyadi Hanif, a Master’s student in Dental Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), participated in the Global Oral Cancer Forum, an international event focused on strategies for handling oral cancer. The forum took place at the Nexus Connexion Conference and Event Centre Auditorium, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 25-26 May 2024.
Hilmy represented FKG UGM in the scientific poster competition with the topic "The Potential of Micromolecular Compartments as Oral Cancer Therapy." In addition to presenting his scientific poster, Hilmy actively participated in various seminar sessions held during the two-day event.
The seminar featured speakers from various countries who provided updates on research and new approaches in the treatment of oral cancer. Through his active participation, Hilmy gained valuable insights into the latest developments in this field.
In his opening speech, Prof. Saman Warnakulasuriya, Chairman of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, expressed his hope for the contributions of various countries to enhance global understanding of oral cancer.
“It is hoped that participation from many countries will help improve the development of oral cancer research worldwide,” he said.
The Global Oral Cancer Forum aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which emphasizes the importance of education and international collaboration in providing health solutions to society.
The participation of students like Hilmy in this global forum not only supports the development of scientific knowledge but also encourages progress in global health research, especially in the prevention and management of oral cancer.
