From 29 August to 11 September 2024, students from the Dental Profession Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), participated in field practice at several community health centers (Puskesmas) in Yogyakarta. This activity is part of the Preventive Dentistry (IKGP) and Public Dental Health (IKGM) courses, aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in managing community health centers and delivering dental care services.
The ongoing field practice takes place at nine Puskesmas across various regions, including Pundong, Kasihan II, Depok III, Mlati I, Mlati II, Seyegan, Pakem, Godean I, and Mantrijeron. Participants, consisting of dental profession students, have the opportunity to learn about the macro management of community health centers and the specific management of dental and oral health services at the Puskesmas dental clinics.
This initiative aligns with the competency standards for dental professionals, emphasizing the importance of providing students with field experience to prepare them for the challenges of the workforce. The field practice not only enhances students’ academic knowledge but also strengthens their practical skills in delivering quality healthcare services to the community.
This program is aimed at improving the quality of education and preparing human resources to be ready for the professional world. The practice also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 4, which ensures inclusive and quality education for all.
