Three students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), have once again achieved an outstanding international accomplishment. The competition was conducted online on 8 November 2025, with the award ceremony held in early December 2025. A team from the Undergraduate Dental Education Program (PDG), consisting of Kayla Ramadhani Sandy (PDG 23, Jakarta), Daffa Muhafiz Rizky Rachmawan (PDG 23, Pekalongan), and Yahya Adinugraha Mumtaz (Clinical Clerkship 82, Yogyakarta), secured Second Place (2nd Place Winner) at the International Dental Quiz organized by Syiah Kuala University, Aceh.
The competition was attended by 34 teams from various national and international universities. Team identities were concealed until the final round, intensifying the level of competition in this international event.
Preparation Amid a Demanding Schedule
The team reported that preparation took place over one month amid intensive academic and non-academic activities. Despite the challenges, they remained committed to setting aside time for joint study to achieve their target.
“The preparation was demanding for us, but the results show that our efforts were not in vain,” said Sandy, representing the team.
Motivation: Perseverance After Repeated Setbacks
Their participation was driven not only by a desire to gain experience, but also to demonstrate perseverance. Previously, the team had participated in several dental quiz competitions at different universities without securing a title.
“Fate did not grant us victory at that time, but it did not extinguish our spirit. Instead, it strengthened it. This achievement reminds us that success comes to those who continue trying,” Sandy stated.
Challenges During the Competition
During the competition, the team faced psychological challenges, particularly moments of doubt when answering questions, which complicated rapid decision-making. However, teamwork and communication became their key strengths.
“We constantly reminded one another that we are a unified team. That mindset helped us overcome hesitation,” Sandy explained. Time management amid academic responsibilities was also a significant challenge during preparation. As a form of recognition, the team received a cash prize of one million rupiah.
In a message to fellow FKG UGM students, the team shared:
"“Stay motivated in pursuing your studies at FKG UGM. Even amid academic demands, continue developing your interests, talents, and potential in other fields.”
This achievement further demonstrates the capability of FKG UGM students to compete at the international level while strengthening the academic and professional spirit within the faculty. Congratulations to the team on this remarkable accomplishment.
