A warm and proud atmosphere filled the New Resident Inauguration Ceremony of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist Program at FKG UGM.
In a room filled with smiles and enthusiasm, prospective specialist doctors began a new chapter in their academic journey.
This event was not merely ceremonial, but marked the beginning of a broader commitment to service in oral and dental healthcare.
In her remarks, Dr. drg. Julita Hendrartini, M.Kes., Director of Prof. Soedomo UGM Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM UGM), emphasized the importance of residents’ roles as both learners and public servants.
“Becoming a resident means taking on new responsibilities. This is not only about learning clinical skills, but also about cultivating empathy and humanity in every medical action,” she stated.
This message reaffirmed that medical education is not solely about technical expertise, but also about character building and social responsibility.
Learning, Adapting, and Growing with Change
Meanwhile, drg. Pingky Krisna Arindra, Sp.BMM.Subsp.Ped.O.M(K), Chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Study Program at FKG UGM, also delivered an inspiring message. She reminded residents that becoming a specialist requires a lifelong commitment to learning.
“We hope residents will continue to learn, collaborate, and adapt. The medical world is constantly evolving, and true professionals are those who grow alongside change,” he emphasized.
The Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, drg. Poerwati Soetji Rahajoe, Sp.BMM.Subsp.T.M.T.M.J(K), Ph.D., highlighted the importance of togetherness in the academic learning process.
“There is no success without collaboration. In this department, we grow together as an academic family,” she expressed.
This message served as a reminder that scientific progress becomes stronger when built on synergy and mutual support.
Embracing the Process, Not Just the Outcome
The most inspiring moment came from the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., who delivered a profound message to the new residents.
“The journey to becoming a specialist is not merely about waiting for results. Enjoy every stage—the learning, the challenges, and the opportunities for interaction. It is through the process that the true value of a doctor is formed,” he remarked.
He further added that specialist dental education must contribute to sustainable national development.
Through oral health and maxillofacial surgery, residents support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
This message aligns with UGM’s spirit as a people-centered university committed to advancing health and quality education for Indonesian society.
New Commitment, Renewed Spirit
The inauguration ceremony was not merely about white coats and pins.
Behind these symbols lies a commitment to learning, serving, and contributing to society through knowledge and empathy.
This spirit reflects FKG UGM’s mission to produce healthcare professionals who are excellent, ethical, and humanity-oriented.
As the Himne Gadjah Mada echoed, the residents stood upright with determination visible on their faces. They are ready to step forward—bringing knowledge and compassion—to serve others. This marks the beginning of a journey that is not only academic, but also spiritual and social—a tangible contribution of FKG UGM toward achieving SDG 3 and SDG 4 for a healthier and more empowered Indonesia.
Final Reflection
Amid the evolving challenges of the medical world, the new residents of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at FKG UGM stand as the next generation ready to serve.
They are not merely recipients of knowledge, but carriers of humanity, integrity, and sustainability—the core values of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
With steady steps and a spirit of service, they are prepared to write a new story: one not driven by titles, but by the pursuit of healthier, more dignified, and more meaningful lives for Indonesia.
