The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry on 27 July 2024. The collaboration aims to strengthen academic fields and expand educational opportunities between the two institutions.
The main focus of this MoU is a staff exchange program, which seeks to share expertise and teaching methodologies to improve the quality of education at both universities. Additionally, a student exchange program is designed to offer international experiences and broaden students’ perspectives on different educational systems and cultures.
Bernadetha Laras Ayu, staff member of the FKG UGM Cooperation Unit, said that this agreement also emphasizes the importance of collaboration in joint research and knowledge sharing among academic resources to address global dental health issues. "Through joint research, both universities are committed to advancing scientific knowledge and enhancing sustainable dental practices," said Bernadetha.
As part of the partnership, FKG UGM and Tohoku University also plan to organize conferences, seminars, and symposia to serve as platforms for knowledge exchange and discussions among researchers, practitioners, and students. This collaboration not only strengthens the academic ties between the two institutions but also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
