The Periodontics Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), in collaboration with PT Cobra Dental Indonesia, held a dental technology training session on Thursday, 31 October 2024. The event took place at the Dental Learning Center (DLC) at FKG UGM and aimed to educate faculty and students about using the Woodpecker Air Polisher. This advanced technology enhances the scaling and root planing procedures.
The training began at 09:00 AM, guided by drg. Luthfiyah, a 2024 Periodontics resident. In her opening remarks, drg. Kwartarini Murdiastuti, Sp. Perio (K), Ph.D., Head of the Periodontics Department at UGM, emphasized the importance of innovation in dental education to meet the increasingly diverse needs of patients.
“Collaborations like this are essential for supporting ongoing education for dental students,” she said.
Representatives from PT Cobra Dental Indonesia also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting dental education through the introduction of innovative tools. This partnership is a tangible contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education (Goal 4) and industry innovation (Goal 9).
The main session featured an in-depth presentation on the functions and benefits of the Woodpecker Air Polisher. This tool is designed to simplify dental cleaning and care procedures through an efficient, non-invasive method. Participants were educated on the tool’s advantages and potential limitations, followed by a live demonstration of its clinical application.
After the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to try the Air Polisher themselves. Some students enthusiastically volunteered as patients to experience firsthand the benefits of the tool. In practice, the Woodpecker Air Polisher proved effective in breaking down calculus and removing stains, creating a positive experience for participants.
A Q&A session held after the demonstration allowed faculty and students to interact directly with the presenters to gain a deeper understanding of the tool’s functions and usage techniques. This fostered a collaborative and engaging learning environment, aligning with the SDGs’ goal of supporting innovation in dental education.
The event concluded with remarks from a representative of PT Cobra Dental, who expressed appreciation to UGM for the opportunity to collaborate on organizing the training.
drg. Wahyu Septian Ardhiansyah Al Rosyid, one of the residents present, shared his thoughts, “This event is very beneficial for us to stay updated with the latest technological developments in dentistry. I hope events like this can be held regularly.”
The collaboration between UGM and PT Cobra Dental not only enriches the knowledge of faculty and students but also represents a significant step forward in enhancing dental healthcare services through the use of technology. This partnership contributes to improving the quality of dental education in Indonesia and ensures that UGM dental graduates are well-equipped to face future challenges.
