Getting to Know More about drg. Dyah Anindya, the Multitalented Lecturer

Behind her busy schedule as a lecturer in the Department of Biomaterials Science in Dentistry (IBKG) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), drg. Dyah Anindya, fondly known as drg. Anin, possesses a wide array of talents. In addition to her academic pursuits, drg. Anin is also recognized for her talents in music, traditional Javanese singing (nembang), and theater.

drg. Dyah Anindya’s interest in the performing arts began in high school. At SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta, drg. Anin played the lead role in the "Jubah Macan" theater production, honing her acting skills. Despite her career in dentistry, her love for acting continues to thrive.

On 4 March 2024, drg. Anin showcased her acting talent again during the Tirakatan Night of FKG UGM's 2024 Anniversary, where she portrayed Suminten Edan in a humorous ketoprak (traditional Javanese drama). This role tested her acting abilities and her skills in Javanese singing, requiring mastery of intonation and characteristic humor. Her performance entertained the audience while delivering a deeply moving narrative.

"Performing on stage is one of the ways I express myself, alongside my work as a lecturer and dentist. It feels like when I’m on stage, I can let go of daily routines and experience the extraordinary energy of acting," drg. Anin shared. Despite her teaching and clinical practice commitments, she always sets aside time to nurture her passion for the arts. She believes that art is an essential part of her identity that should be kept alive, especially in an academic environment like UGM. She hopes to inspire students by showing that lecturers can also contribute to the arts and culture.

drg. Anin’s role in the ketoprak exemplifies how an academic can participate in cultural preservation and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by contributing to the preservation of local culture through ketoprak. This activity is a testament to how arts and culture can complement the academic world in achieving broader goals.
