The Dentistry Collaborative Updates (DCU) seminar was once again held at the Margono Soeradji Auditorium, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), on Saturday (26/10/2024). drg. Yosaphat Bayu Rosanto, MDSc., Sp.BMM., Subsp.IDM(K)was one of the speakers, presenting the topic "Optimizing Oral Surgery Recovery: Effective Post-operative Care Protocols for Enhanced Recovery.".
Moderated by drg. Muhammad Reza Pahlevi, Ph.D., the event brought together students, practitioners, and academics in the field of dentistry to discuss key issues related to socket preservation during tooth extractions.
drg. Yosaphat began his presentation by emphasizing the critical role of socket preservation in tooth extraction procedures, highlighting its importance for optimal recovery and the prevention of post-operative complications.
"Socket preservation is the responsibility of all dentists, not just oral surgeons," Drg. Yosaphat stated. He added that every dentist should understand the characteristics of buccal bone and maintain vascularization during extraction procedures to achieve better outcomes.
During his session, drg. Yosaphat also discussed the importance of palpation in assessing the mobility of teeth and surrounding bone before extraction. This technique helps dentists anticipate the needs and risks associated with tooth extraction.
"Maintaining sensitivity during the extraction process is crucial," he explained, outlining the differences in techniques for extracting anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth. Each requires a unique approach due to their distinct anatomical characteristics.
Additionally, drg. Yosaphat recommended the use of curettage tools in cases of necrosis to remove dead tissue and promote better healing. He emphasized that the proper use of curettage is essential to avoid complications and ensure optimal tissue recovery after surgery.
This seminar aimed to provide participants with insights into the importance of skills and techniques in tooth extractions that support optimal tissue healing.
By fostering a recovery-friendly environment, socket preservation practices also align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
