Chairperson of the Universitas Gadjah Mada Alumni Family Association (KAGAMA), Ganjar Pranowo, held a warm meeting with the UGM Community Service (KKN) Team from Sarmi District, Papua, on 16 October 2024, at his residence in Yogyakarta. The gathering became a memorable occasion, especially as the KKN team shared their extraordinary experience of assisting a mother during childbirth on a speedboat.
Ni’matun Mutmainah, known as Ima, the Health Division Coordinator from the Dental Hygiene Study Program Faculty of Dentistry UGM, recounted the team’s 50-day service in Papua’s remote, outermost, and underdeveloped areas (3T regions). Ima highlighted the challenges they faced in connecting with the local community and how they successfully earned the trust of the residents.
Ganjar Pranowo expressed his pride and gratitude to the UGM KKN team for their dedication and hard work. “You have shown extraordinary commitment in providing assistance in remote areas despite numerous limitations. This experience not only builds professional skills but also strengthens empathy and care for others,” he remarked.
The heroic story of the UGM KKN team in Papua has inspired not only members of KAGAMA but also the entire UGM academic community. It is hoped that the spirit of service demonstrated by these students will encourage more people to engage in similar efforts, creating a positive impact on society and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
