FKG UGM Visits the “City of Bengawan” to Support Preparations for the Opening of the Conservative Dentistry Specialist Program at FKG UMS

Surakarta, December 5, 2025 — The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), conducted a site visit to the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FKG UMS) to support preparations for the opening of the Conservative Dentistry Specialist Program (PPDGS). The visit included an institutional readiness presentation, inspection of facilities and infrastructure, and in-depth institutional discussions.

UMS Reaffirms Its Commitment to Opening a Specialist Program

In her opening remarks, Dean of FKG UMS, Dr. drg. Noor Hafida Widyastuti, Sp.KG, stated that the institution continues to strengthen its academic quality and is fully prepared to collaborate in capacity building.

“UMS currently has 81 study programs, and 70 percent of them are accredited Excellent. We are committed to continuous growth with a non-profit spirit and require mentorship from UGM to ensure that the opening of this specialist program meets established standards,” she said. She emphasized that the Conservative Dentistry Specialist Program represents a strategic step for the relatively young faculty.

FKG UGM: Mentorship as a Form of National Contribution

The Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at FKG UGM, drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MD.Sc., Ph.D., expressed appreciation for the trust placed in FKG UGM as the mentoring institution.

“We are honored to be asked to assist in establishing this program. FKG UGM has mentored several institutions, and we view this role as a tangible national contribution to increasing the availability of dentists and dental specialists in Indonesia,” she said.

She added that the involvement of UGM professors and lecturers who are active in professional collegiums is expected to facilitate technical coordination with UMS.

FKG UMS Presents Academic and Clinical Readiness

The Dean of FKG UMS presented the faculty’s vision and mission, curriculum, human resources, and prepared clinical training facilities.

“We want to ensure that all collegium standards are met, from the curriculum and faculty members to clinical facilities. Therefore, input from FKG UGM is extremely valuable to us,” she explained.

UMS also reaffirmed its commitment to addressing existing gaps, including improving skill laboratory facilities and refining accreditation documentation.

RSGM Soelastri Ready to Serve as the Main Teaching Hospital

During the site visit to RSGM Soelastri, the hospital director explained that its service profile is considered adequate for clinical education.

“RSGM Soelastri has held Paripurna accreditation since 2021. We serve more than 23,000 patients annually, with Conservative Dentistry cases ranking third. All supporting facilities are available,” they stated.

The hospital also expressed readiness to follow up on recommendations from the mentoring team.

Technical Input: Curriculum, Accreditation Forms, and Institutional Framework

Technical discussions between the UMS and UGM teams were dynamic. drg. Yulita Kristanti, Head of the Conservative Dentistry Department at FKG UGM, provided several notes regarding curriculum alignment with collegium standards.

“The curriculum needs to be clarified, particularly the separation between collegium credit units and local content. Course syllabi must also be complete and consistent, as these will be a key focus for assessors,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Wulansari, S.S., Head of the FKG UGM Office, highlighted data completeness in the accreditation forms.

“Some facilities are already available but have not been listed in the forms. This is crucial to strengthening institutional readiness during verification,” she explained.

Institutional matters were further elaborated by drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MD.Sc., Ph.D., who stressed the importance of a clearly defined academic vision and mission for the program.

“Every study program must have a clear distinction. Its academic focus should be reflected in education, research, and graduate profiles. This will become the identity of the UMS Conservative Dentistry Program,” she noted. She also emphasized the urgency of finalizing the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between UMS and RSGM Soelastri.

“The PKS must be signed before submitting documents to SIAGA. Affiliated hospitals must also be explicitly listed to comply with regulations,” she added.

Strengthening Coordination Toward Collegium Visitation

At the conclusion of the visit, both parties agreed on the need for continued coordination with the collegium, refinement of accreditation documents, and finalization of the PKS prior to SIAGA registration.

FKG UMS stated that all feedback would be followed up accordingly.

“We will complete the skill lab, revise the curriculum, organize human resource data, and finalize the PKS in line with the mentoring team’s recommendations,” concluded the Dean of FKG UMS.
