FKG UGM Hosts UMPR Visit to Foster Collaboration and Establish a New Faculty of Dentistry

Yogyakarta, 6-7 November 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) welcomed a delegation from Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya (UMPR) to support the establishment of a new Faculty of Dentistry at UMPR. The visit aimed to seek guidance from FKG UGM, renowned for its excellence in dental education, to enhance educational opportunities in Central Kalimantan.

The UMPR delegation received a warm welcome from FKG UGM. The visit began with a tour of the Dental Learning Center, where the UMPR team gained insights into FKG UGM's state-of-the-art facilities and innovative teaching methods. This exposure was instrumental for UMPR in preparing to launch its dental program.

Discussions during the visit focused on key areas such as curriculum development, faculty training, and infrastructure support. FKG UGM shared best practices in dental education, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

Capacity building was a central theme throughout the discussions. FKG UGM expressed its commitment to assisting UMPR in developing the necessary capabilities to ensure the success of its new Faculty of Dentistry. This includes faculty training programs and workshops aimed at enhancing teaching methodologies.

The collaboration between FKG UGM and UMPR is expected to play a vital role in producing high-quality dental graduates. By equipping future dentists with essential skills and knowledge, this partnership also aims to improve access to healthcare services in Central Kalimantan. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The visit concluded with a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between FKG UGM and UMPR. This agreement formalized their commitment to collaborate on the development of dental education and the establishment of a new faculty at UMPR.

Both institutions expressed optimism about the future of this collaboration. FKG UGM leadership reaffirmed their dedication to supporting UMPR in its journey toward becoming a leading institution in dental education. They believe that this partnership will not only benefit the two universities but also the broader community in Central Kalimantan.

As UMPR’s new Faculty of Dentistry takes shape, collaboration with FKG UGM will be key to ensuring the program meets high educational standards. This initiative marks a significant step forward in improving healthcare education in the region, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the healthcare sector in Indonesia.
