Another outstanding achievement has been accomplished by students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM). The FKG UGM Dental Radiology Team won first place at the Grand Final of the Indonesian Olympiad of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology , held at the Molar Room, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Makassar, on 4 June 2026.
The achievement was secured by Aurelia Azzahra, a student in the Professional Dentistry Program, and Otniella Sharelin Kiranjani, an undergraduate Dentistry student, who represented UGM in this prestigious national competition in the field of dental radiology. This victory demonstrates the academic excellence, resilience, and analytical abilities of FKG UGM students in facing increasingly complex scientific challenges.
The competition began with preliminary and semifinal rounds conducted online on 9 May 2026. In the initial stage, FKG UGM sent three of its best teams. After undergoing a rigorous and competitive selection process, one team successfully advanced to the grand final, competing against the strongest finalists from leading universities across Indonesia.
In the final round, five finalist teams competed for the national championship title. They represented UGM, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas). The competition was highly competitive, as the 69 teams participating in the preliminary round consisted of selected students who had passed various stages of evaluation.
The grand final consisted of three rounds designed to assess participants’ abilities in radiographic interpretation, case analysis, clinical problem-solving, and mastery of dental radiology theory. In the first round, the UGM team collected 140 points. Their consistent performance continued in the second round, where they gained an additional 60 points, before finishing the competition with 20 points in the third round. The final accumulated score of 220 points secured UGM as the highest-scoring team and crowned them national champions.
Meanwhile, second and third place were achieved by the host institution, Universitas Hasanuddin. Universitas Indonesia finished in fourth place, while Universitas Padjadjaran ranked fifth.
This success was not achieved instantly. Behind the victory was an intensive preparation process, continuous training, and full support from academic supervisors and the FKG UGM academic community. The spirit of collaboration between students and mentors became an important factor that guided the team toward the highest achievement.
Aurelia Azzahra expressed her gratitude for the team’s accomplishment.
“This competition provided us with a very valuable experience. Each round required accuracy, critical thinking skills, and strong teamwork. We are grateful to have delivered the best results for FKG UGM and hope this achievement can motivate other students to continue having the courage to compete at the national level,” she said.
Similarly, Otniella Sharelin Kiranjani stated that the victory was the result of a long and challenging learning process.
“We faced many materials and cases that required an in-depth understanding of dentomaxillofacial radiology. This victory is not only about winning the competition, but also about how we continue learning, developing, and improving our professional abilities as future dentists.”
The team’s academic supervisor also expressed appreciation for the students’ dedication and outstanding performance throughout the competition.
“This achievement shows that FKG UGM students possess excellent academic capabilities and are able to compete with the best universities in Indonesia. What is truly impressive is not only the final result but also the learning process, discipline, and determination they demonstrated throughout the preparation and competition.”

Winning first place in the Indonesian Olympiad of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology further strengthens FKG UGM’s commitment to producing outstanding graduates who are not only academically competent but also capable of contributing to the advancement of dental science and oral healthcare services in Indonesia.
This achievement serves as an inspiration that hard work, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning are the main keys to achieving excellence. The success of the FKG UGM Dental Radiology Team in Makassar adds to the university’s long list of national accomplishments and further strengthens FKG UGM’s position as one of Indonesia’s leading dental education institutions.
