FKG UGM Explores Potential Collaboration with Tohoku University

FKG UGM held a meeting to explore potential collaboration with Tohoku University, represented by Prof. Guang Hong MD, DDS, Ph.D., on Thursday (30/05). The meeting took place in the Meeting Room of the OECF Building at FKG UGM and was attended by the Vice Dean and faculty representatives from the Departments of Orthodontics, Periodontics, BMM, Biomaterials, Prosthodontics, Biomedicine, Conservation, and IKGA.

During the discussion session, Prof. Guang Hong offered potential collaboration opportunities with Tohoku University to organize various educational programs. "We are very open to collaborating in research and joint scientific publications, international symposiums, faculty and student exchanges, including sharing educational resources," explained Prof. Hong. Additionally, considering that Universitas Gadjah Mada and Tohoku University are part of the Association for Dental Education, Asia Pacific (ADEAP), Prof. Hong also proposed collaboration in ADEAP programs.

"Especially in terms of joint scientific publications, if we only involve researchers from Tohoku, we get one point, but if we collaborate with Universitas Gadjah Mada, we get two points. This would significantly help in publishing our research," he added.

This potential collaboration was positively received by FKG UGM, represented by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc, Ph.D., also known as Drg. Mamik. She encouraged each department representative to explore the potential for initiating collaboration with Tohoku University, one of the top universities in Japan, which holds a high position in global university rankings.

"There are many benefits to be gained from collaboration, as each university has unique strengths that can be learned and developed," said Drg. Mamik.

"We will particularly review this collaboration potential in the most feasible areas, such as student exchange programs. Let’s make the most of this collaboration opportunity," she added.

The discussion session was followed by a Faculty Tour to the CAD/CAM DLC Laboratory, SEM, and the Integrative Research Laboratory. During this visit, Prof. Hong expressed his admiration for the facilities at FKG UGM in the DLC Building. "With these very comprehensive facilities, it would be great if the collaboration between Tohoku University and UGM could be established," he remarked.

This activity reflects FKG UGM's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially pillar 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), pillar 4 (Quality Education), and pillar 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
