The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), once again organized a series of activities for the National Dental Health Month (BKGN) UGM 2025. This year’s program featured a combination of community-based education, creative competitions, collaboration with industry partners, and free dental health services involving lecturers, students, educational staff, and external partners.
The Chair of BKGN 2025, Dr. drg. Dyah Anindya Widyasrini, MDSc, delivered the official activity report before representatives of the university leadership, faculty, dental hospitals, government institutions, partner schools, and FKG UGM students.
Education Through Pesantren & School Health Programs
Dental health education programs for schools and Islamic orphanages in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) became one of the main focuses of this year’s BKGN series. The activities began with a Training of Trainers (4 October 2025) attended by 30 teacher cadres who received dental health education materials delivered by FKG UGM lecturers.
These cadres subsequently implemented the education programs in their respective schools throughout October, reaching more than 440 participants from five schools and orphanages. All participants received toothbrush and toothpaste packages to support the practice of clean and healthy habits from an early age.
BKGN 2025 Competitions: Student and Public Creativity at Its Peak
This year’s poster and educational video competitions recorded high participation, with 638 participants from various regions and age groups. After the judging process, five winners from each category received cash prizes and certificates.
This program served as a platform for public participation and FKG UGM students to disseminate dental health messages in creative and targeted ways.
FKG UGM Participation in Pepsodent Student Ambassador
Three student teams from FKG UGM participated in the national Pepsodent Student Ambassador 2025 program. Although they did not secure championship titles, the educational videos they produced made a positive contribution to improving health communication skills and public awareness.
Digital Contributions: 121 Dental Health Education Contents
Throughout the implementation of BKGN 2025, the organizing committee developed a long-term educational approach through Instagram and TikTok channels. A total of 121 educational contents were published, designed to be accessible to various age groups with easy-to-understand delivery styles.
Free Dental Treatment (FDT) Capai 770 Pendaftar
In collaboration with PT Unilever Indonesia, the Free Dental Treatment (FDT) services officially opened today and will run for the next two days. Services include scaling, fillings, simple extractions, and several special services for students from pesantren and Islamic school programs.
The FDT initially targeted 750 patients; however, 770 people registered within just 20 minutes, demonstrating the high level of public trust in FKG UGM’s services. Residents from six surrounding hamlets were also invited to take advantage of these dental health services.
Appreciation and Expectations
In the report, the Chair of BKGN expressed appreciation to all parties involved—university leaders, industry partners, professional organizations, partner schools, educational staff, students, and the surrounding community. It is hoped that this year’s BKGN activities will further strengthen FKG UGM’s role as a center for dental health education, services, and empowerment at both local and national levels.
