The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) has officially established a collaboration with PT Setia Anugrah Medika to enhance research capacity in the field of dentistry (1 July). This collaboration is focused on providing tools and materials for a research project titled “Cytogenetics of Buccal Mucosal Epithelium in Children with Mild and Moderate Down Syndrome in Bontang City.”
This research project is funded by the UGM Community Grant and is led by Dr. drg. Alma Linggar Jonarta, M.Kes. The project aims to study the genetic aspects affecting oral health in children with Down syndrome.
According to drg. Alma, this research is designed to provide further understanding of cytogenetic factors in buccal mucosal epithelium, which could lead to the development of more accurate and specific dental care for children with special needs.
To support the execution of this research, drg. Alma has partnered with PT Setia Anugrah Medika to provide modern research equipment and materials. “Since this research involves students, they will also be trained in the use of the equipment used for the research,” said drg. Alma.
Bernadetha Laras Ayu, staff member of the FKG UGM Cooperation Unit, stated that the collaboration between FKG UGM and PT Setia Anugrah Medika is an effort to build a bridge between academia and industry to ensure that the results of scientific research can be practically applied. “Periodic evaluations will be conducted to monitor the progress of the project and explore potential future collaborations,” said Bernadetha.
This partnership not only strengthens the health sector through innovative research but also aligns with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly pillars 4 (Quality Education), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal).
