The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) distributed tumblers to 208 new students on Saturday, 3 August. This initiative is a tangible demonstration of FKG UGM's commitment to reducing waste. The tumbler distribution took place on the final day of the PIONIR I-Dentistry event as part of a campaign to minimize the use of single-use plastic bottles.
“The provision of these tumblers reflects FKG UGM's concern for the environment. We hope that with these tumblers, new students can reduce their consumption of single-use plastic bottles,” said Muhammad Fariz, Chairperson of the PIONIR I-Dentistry Student Committee.
Echoing Fariz's sentiment, drg. Aulia Ayub Sp.Ort, the lecturer responsible for the PIONIR activities at FKG UGM, added, “These tumblers can be used by the students. At FKG UGM, there are also drinking water taps available for students to utilize.”
This initiative aligns with the 12th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) aimed at Responsible Consumption and Production. By reducing the use of single-use plastics, FKG UGM contributes to waste reduction and the creation of a cleaner environment.
“In addition to supporting SDG 12, this initiative also relates to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities,” said drg. Auli. “We hope that with this initiative, FKG UGM can set an example in creating a more environmentally friendly campus.”
The provision of tumblers to all new students is part of FKG UGM's long-term commitment to addressing environmental issues, particularly waste management. By providing the necessary facilities and education, FKG UGM aims to raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation among students.
