Residents of the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at FKG UGM conducted an examination and educational session on bottle-feeding habits at TK ABA Suryocondro in Yogyakarta on 13 September 2024. This event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of prolonged bottle-feeding.
Bottle-feeding is often seen as a convenient way to soothe children, but if not managed properly, it can have negative effects on dental health. Prolonged use of bottles can lead to malocclusion, or misalignment of teeth, which can trigger other dental issues.
During the event, the residents carried out dental examinations for the children. The event was intended to educate students, teachers, and parents about the potential impact of prolonged bottle-feeding on children's dental health. drg. Arif Rahman, one of the residents from the Pediatric Dentistry program at FKG UGM, explained, "Bottle-feeding can cause cavities, speech disorders, and issues with jaw growth."
The residents also shared educational materials that were easy to understand about oral hygiene practices and healthy eating habits for children. "By providing this information, we hope that parents will be able to make better decisions regarding their children's dental health," said drg. Arif Rahman.
This initiative not only focused on direct examinations but also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal). Through the partnership between the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at FKG UGM and TK ABA Suryocondro, this effort highlights the importance of collaboration in raising health awareness among children.
