The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) conducted a community service program titled "Social Service: Free Dental Health Consultations and Prosthetic Services" in Padukuhan Kragilan, Mlati, Sleman, on 4 August 2024. This initiative aims to improve the dental and oral health of the local community while providing free prosthetic solutions for those in need. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including UGM Prosthodontics alumni, the Yogyakarta Prosthodontic Association, lecturers from UGM’s Prosthodontics Department, and postgraduate prosthodontics students. The opening ceremony was also attended by representatives from the local government, healthcare professionals (Iprosi members, FKG lecturers, and prosthodontic residents), and the Kragilan community.
This activity included multiple services, such as: free dental health consultations, free prosthetic fabrication, and oral health education. Participants had the opportunity to consult directly with professional dentists about their oral health concerns. Additionally, those in need were provided with free prosthetic services to assist with missing or damaged teeth. Beyond healthcare services, participants also received essential education on proper oral hygiene, including correct brushing techniques and healthy eating habits.
This initiative is part of FKG UGM’s commitment to making a real impact in the field of dental and oral health. Drg. Nadya Kurnia Putri, one of the participating dentists, stated: "Through this social service program, we hope the community becomes more aware of the importance of maintaining oral health, and we can help those in need of free dental care."
During the event, five patients immediately received denture fabrication services, while others were referred for further treatments, such as tooth extractions followed by denture placement. This initiative is expected to provide immediate health benefits while strengthening the relationship between FKG UGM and the community, raising awareness of the importance of oral care. Agus, a representative from the local government (Dukuh Kragilan), expressed his appreciation: "We hope this event runs smoothly until the dentures are fitted next month. We also hope that similar programs continue, as they bring significant benefits to the community."
This initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 Good Health and Well-being, which aims to enhance public health quality comprehensively.
