FKG UGM once again engaged in community service by conducting dental check-ups and health education at the Special School (SLB) B Karnnamanohara Condong Catur, Sleman, on Thursday (30/05). This event, titled I-CARE, was a collaboration between FKG UGM and the Ikatan Keluarga Mahasiswa Manajemen (IKAMMA) FEB UGM, targeting students and teachers at SLB B Karnnamanohara, a school for children with hearing impairments.
15 personnel participated in this initiative, including 4 resident dentists, 4 clinical interns, 4 undergraduate students, and 3 administrative staff. The activities, from 11:15 am to 1:45 pm WIB, included dental screenings and education on maintaining oral hygiene for the SLB community.
The event was met with enthusiasm by the 40 school members in attendance. "We are happy and satisfied with the free dental check-up from FKG UGM," remarked one of the participants. The event was seen as highly beneficial, and there is hope that it will be repeated in the future so that all members of the SLB community can benefit.
This activity embodies FKG UGM's mission to improve the dental and oral health of the Indonesian community through community service that reaches all segments of society, including individuals with disabilities. FKG UGM is committed to actively realizing national health goals by providing inclusive dental health services in line with the fifth principle of Pancasila. This initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Pillar 1 (No Poverty), Pillar 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), Pillar 4 (Quality Education), Pillar 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Pillar 17 (Partnership for the Goals). By involving students in these community service activities, FKG UGM brings health services and education closer to the public, fostering care and inclusivity and enhancing public health while reducing social disparities, ultimately working towards a poverty-free Indonesia.
