UGM Faculty of Dentistry Provides Orientation for 58 New Dentist Candidates

A total of 58 new dentist candidates attended an orientation event at the Reading Room, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, on Monday (1/7/2024). The event featured alumni who have successfully established themselves as dental clinic entrepreneurs to share their experiences with the participants.

The event began with a welcome address by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D. In her remarks, drg. Rosa stated that the event was aimed at providing knowledge and insights to the new dentist candidates who will soon be serving the community.

“You can see how our alumni have succeeded in their careers. You should learn positive experiences from our alumni,” Rosa said. She also advised the participants to maintain good networkingrelationships with alumni and fellow colleagues, as these connections can help them achieve success in the future.

Drg. Prima Ananta, Sp.Ort, served as the speaker for this orientation session. She encouraged the new students to be bold in pursuing business opportunities or becoming entrepreneurs. Known as Prima, Dr. Prima Ananta is a UGM Faculty of Dentistry alumna who has been running her dental clinic for two years.

“The dentistry profession offers a great opportunity to become an entrepreneur. To start a business, two things are needed: expanding your network and having a great team,” Prima explained.

Anisa, one of the new dentist candidates, expressed her aspiration to become an entrepreneur. She aims to provide dental services that she can manage independently.

“As a dentist, I have the intention to own a dental clinic someday. Establishing a dental clinic can create job opportunities and increase access to healthcare services,” Anisa stated.

This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals particularly the third pillar Good Health and Well-being, the fourth pillar (Quality Education), and the eighth pillar Decent Work and Economic Growth.
