Residents of the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Education Program from the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted an educational program on healthy food for dental health at TK ABA Masjid Margoyoso, Yogyakarta, on 14 August 2024. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition for children’s dental health.
Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining children's dental health from an early age. Teaching children about healthy eating habits helps prevent future dental problems such as cavities and gum disease. This awareness is essential given the long-term impact of poor eating habits on oral and dental health.
The program was attended by students and teachers. “We hope that through this activity, children will understand and develop the habit of choosing healthy foods so they grow up with healthy teeth,” expressed Siti Noorjannah, one of the teachers at TK ABA Masjid Margoyoso.
During the event, the residents engaged children with interactive activities like games and storytelling, focusing on healthy eating. They explained that foods like fruits and vegetables help strengthen teeth, while sugary foods should be limited to prevent tooth decay. The children were enthusiastic and excited, demonstrating a good understanding of the messages conveyed.
This initiative reflects FKG UGM's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This educational program marks an important step in creating a generation more aware of the importance of dental health through proper eating habits.
