The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held an event titled GENERATE (Getting New Regard About Entrepreneurship) on 8 September 2024, at the Margono Soeradji Auditorium. This event aimed to boost the interest of new students in participating in the Student Entrepreneur Program (PMW). The event consisted of two main sessions: an entrepreneurship class and a seminar known as the Dental Preneur Learning Club (DLC).
The entrepreneurship class featured an internal speaker, Nadia Nur Hanifah, a recipient of the PMW funding in 2021. Nadia shared insights about the Student Entrepreneur Program, discussing the benefits and her personal experiences during the program to inspire students to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and understand the support available through the program.
During the event, students were tasked with creating posters that displayed their business ideas along with brief explanations of the concepts. This practical activity encouraged creativity and innovation among the participants, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that emphasize the importance of fostering creativity in entrepreneurship.
The event continued with the DLC seminar, featuring an external speaker, Ridhani Sabrina, the owner of Imokey, a local brand. Ridhani shared her journey of building her business, discussing her brand's background, how to effectively utilize capital, and how to identify business opportunities. She also talked about the challenges faced during the entrepreneurial process and provided valuable tips for developing an ongoing business.
In her speech, Ridhani Sabrina emphasized the importance of being smart and diligent when seeking opportunities in entrepreneurship. “In entrepreneurship, we must be smart and persistent in seeking opportunities. Additionally, we should regularly conduct a SWOT analysis to evaluate the business that is already running,” said Ridhani Sabrina. This approach allows entrepreneurs to stay ahead in competition and adapt to changing market conditions.
Ridhani also highlighted the need for business owners to remain flexible in the face of evolving trends. “It’s crucial not to stick to just one product,” she advised. This flexibility is essential for maintaining and growing a business in today’s dynamic environment.
The event was well-received by the students, who expressed enthusiasm for the insights shared by both speakers. Many participants noted that the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical tasks helped them better understand the entrepreneurial landscape and the potential of the PMW program.
As the event concluded, students left with renewed energy and creativity, eager to explore their entrepreneurial aspirations. In line with the activities, the Faculty of Dentistry at UGM continues to play an essential role in nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs, in line with SDG Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting creativity and innovation in business.
