On 3 September 2024, SLB Amali in Bontang City conducted an evaluation of a prototype 3D toothbrush specifically designed for children with Down Syndrome. This event involved two children with Down Syndrome, two parents, six teachers, and a research team from the Doctoral Program in Dental Medicine at UGM.
The research team performed a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of the 3D toothbrush, focusing on oral hygiene, gingival health, and hand contact analysis during the brushing process. This trial aimed to compare oral hygiene results between the special toothbrush and the regular toothbrushes used at SLB Amali. Additionally, parents in attendance were provided with education, leaflets, monitoring calendars, and timers to support the use of the special toothbrush.
“One of the parents expressed, “Currently, my child is still using a regular toothbrush, but I hope the special toothbrush will make it easier for them to brush their teeth.”
This initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) numbers 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal).
