Six orthodontic residents from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), participated in a comprehensive examination to earn their Specialist in Orthodontics degree. The examination took place in the OSCE Room of the Dental Learning Center on 5 January 2024.
Dr. drg. Cendrawasih Andusyana Farmasyanti, M.Kes., Sp.Ort.(K), Head of the Orthodontics Department, stated that the comprehensive examination covers various aspects, including the Computer-Based Test (CBT), wire bending skills examination, and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). “The residents are assessed on their mastery of orthodontic theory, clinical skills, and decision-making abilities in complex clinical cases,” said drg. Cendrawasih.
In addition to the faculty members from the Orthodontics Department at FKG UGM, the examination also included an external examiner, drg. Siti Bahirrah, Sp.Ort (K) from Universitas Sumatera Utara. The presence of an external examiner is intended to provide a more objective assessment.
drg. Aulia Ayub, one of the participants, expressed satisfaction with the examination process. “Thanks to the guidance from my lecturers and support from my fellow colleagues, I was able to perform well on the exam,” Aulia stated.
By successfully completing this comprehensive examination, FKG UGM contributes to realizing quality education and reducing the disparity in the number of healthcare professionals. The orthodontic residents at UGM are now closer to achieving their goal of providing quality dental health services to the community.
