On Sunday (24/7/2022), the signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement on the Indonesian Dental Specialist Subspecialty Program Consortium was held. The event was attended by six dental faculties in Indonesia: Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and Universitas Gadjah Mada. Also present was the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNHAS, Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D, Sp.BM (K) and the deans and vice deans of each participating dental faculty.
Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, had the honor of hosting the consortium's implementation, which took place in the meeting room meeting room on the 2nd floor of the OECF Building, Faculty of Dentistry, UGM. The event was conducted in a blended format to comply with health protocols. Through this initiative, it is hoped that collaboration will be enhanced to support innovation in dentistry as part of implementing the higher education tri-dharma.
The event commenced with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, followed by the signing the cooperation agreement by the deans of the six dental faculties involved. Subsequently, a group photo was taken.
In his address, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, drg. Suryono, SH., MM., Ph.D, stated that today's consortium represents a strategic step in responding to external changes to build the nation's independence. Through this initiative, the six faculties of dentistry agreed to collaborate in implementing the Indonesian Dental Specialist Subspecialty Program. "Together, each dental faculty present here today will collaborate and complement each other," he added.
Furthermore, the Chairperson of the Dental Faculty Consortium, Dr. drg. Agung Sosiawan, M.Kes., appreciated this initiative as a manifestation of the commitment of the 6 Public Higher Education dental faculties in Indonesia towards preparing for the ASEAN Economic Community's future. They aim to contribute to developing higher education tri dharma through the established agreement. "Although not an easy task, this agreement can realize what has been mutually agreed upon," he explained.
The consortium's objectives were underscored by Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D, Sp.BM (K), addressing the demographic bonus expected in Indonesia by 2030. Given the current situation, there is a significant need for specialist and subspecialist dentists within society. Therefore, the consortium agreement collectively prepares the six dental faculties for a better future in Indonesian dental education.
The activities continued with a tour of the Faculty of Dentistry, UGM, and discussions on drafting vision, mission statements, and work programs.
