Support for Children with Special Needs: Walking Aid Donation at SLB Bina Kasih Srumbung, Magelang

Magelang, 12 December 2024 – Lecturers from the Orthodontics Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Rotary Club Yogyakarta and Prof. Anne Marie Kuijpers-Jagtman, DDS, PhD, an internationally renowned orthodontist, donated walking aids to students with special needs at SLB Bina Kasih Srumbung. This initiative aims to support children with mobility impairments, helping them gain greater independence in their daily activities. The donated walking aids are expected to significantly improve their quality of life.

The highlight of the event was the official handover of walking aids. With great enthusiasm, Prof. Kuijpers-Jagtman, alongside members of the Rotary Club Yogyakarta, personally distributed the aids to the children in need. The atmosphere was filled with emotion and joy as the students welcomed the assistance with smiles and laughter. “These walking aids are not just tools; they are a symbol of our support and commitment to children with special needs. We hope they will help improve their daily lives,” said Prof. Kuijpers-Jagtman in her speech.

The event began with a welcome speech from the school principal, who outlined the students' conditions and needs. The delegation then toured the school, engaging directly with the children, creating a warm and inclusive environment. The students were excited to try out their new walking aids, highlighting the importance of this support.

The Rotary Club Yogyakarta played a key role in this initiative, providing walking aids and logistical support. Their commitment to continuing similar programs is a crucial pillar in enhancing the quality of life for children with special needs at SLB Bina Kasih.

This initiative is expected to have a significant impact, not only by improving the mobility and independence of the children but also by raising awareness of the importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting children with special needs. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: Enhancing the well-being of children with special needs; SDG 4 – Quality Education: Providing equal learning opportunities through accessibility support; SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Encouraging innovation to support mobility-impaired individuals; and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthening cross-sector collaboration to improve children's welfare. With a spirit of collaboration and care, this initiative represents a real step toward a more inclusive and supportive society.
