drg. Jessy Wijaya Wins 1st Place Outstanding Oral Presenter Award, Basic Science Category in Malaysia

13-14 August 2025 — drg. Jessy Wijaya, a resident of the Periodontology Specialist Program, successfully won 1st Place Outstanding Oral Presenter Award in the Basic Science category at the 3-Minute Pitch of the 5th Postgraduate Research Day (PGRD) 2025, organized by the School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Preparation included discussions with her supervisors, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., and Dr. drg. Rezmelia Sari, M.Sc., Sp.Perio(K), covering everything from preparing the title, abstract, and draft for the pitch, to the PowerPoint presentation, and even practice sessions. drg. Jessy received a lot of input regarding content, word choice, and delivery style during the pitching , ensuring that her presentation was engaging, easy to understand, and completed on time.

The biggest challenge of this competition was ensuring that her entire research — from background to conclusion — could be delivered in just three minutes. This required a presentation design that was concise, clear, and impactful for the panel of judges. With the support and motivation from her two supervisors, as well as the Head of the Periodontology Program, drg. Kwartarini Murdiastuti, Sp.Perio(K), Ph.D., who accompanied her during the competition, drg. Jessy became more confident and assured in presenting her research.

drg. Jessy Wijaya gained a lot of insights after participating in this year’s PGRD, broadening her horizons, and she hopes this experience will serve as valuable preparation for her future academic and professional career. She also hopes that by winning this award as a delegate of FKG UGM, she can introduce and open doors for collaboration with international universities that participated in PGRD. The established collaborations, especially with the Periodontology Program, are expected to create opportunities for knowledge and insight exchange, bringing benefits to all Periodontology PPDGS students.
