drg. Elastria Widita, M.Sc., Ph.D Wins 1st Place Oral Presentation at the ASEAN Geriatric Dentistry Conference 2025 in Malaysia

Konferensi ASEAN Geriatric Dentistry Conference The ASEAN Geriatric Dentistry Conference, held on 14–16 August 2025, was the first event providing a platform for gerodontology researchers (a branch of dentistry focusing on oral health care for the elderly) at the ASEAN level. “This Oral Presentation Competition is one of the forums to showcase the research results of gerodontology researchers in ASEAN. There were 32 participants consisting of various researchers and postgraduate students from ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, as well as participants from India,” explained drg. Elastria Widita, M.Sc., Ph.D., familiarly known as drg. Dita.

The main challenge of this event was how to present research results within a very limited time (8 minutes). The research involved comprehensive examination of the oral phase parameters of swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), which was also appreciated by the panel of judges. The team involved colleagues from various departments within FKG UGM & FKKMK UGM, namely: the Department of Oral Medicine, Department of Preventive Dentistry and Public Oral Health, Department of Oral Biology, and the Department of Orthopedics FKKMK UGM, as well as an international collaborator from Niigata University. “The meaning I take from this championship is that in doing everything, passion and sincerity are essential,” concluded drg. Dita.
