The 10th National and International Scientific Meeting (TIMNASS X), held on 1–2 August 2025, brought achievements for the academic community of FKG UGM, namely drg. Ayu Fresno Argadianti, Sp.PM, who won 2 awards: 3rd Place Best Presenter in Original Research with the title Assessing AI-Generated Oral Cancer Information to Support Design-Thinking Educational Materials and 1st Favourite Research Center Innovation Award with the title Oral Cancer FAQs Chatbot. Interestingly, in this TIMNASS X event, drg. Aga was not representing FKG UGM, but rather the University of Melbourne, where she is currently pursuing her doctoral studies. “This research is part of my doctoral studies at the University of Melbourne. The desire to support the National Oral Health Action Plan 2024–2030 in increasing the number of oral cavity screenings , thereby improving the chances of early detection of oral cancer, was the initial inspiration for this study,” explained drg. Ayu Fresno Argadianti, Sp.PM, who is familiarly known as drg. Aga.
In this digital era, the general public widely uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems to seek health information. But are the answers provided by AI systems accurate and understandable? Especially when it comes to oral cancer, inaccurate information may lead to delayed diagnosis and higher mortality rates. This research is an initial step to explore the potential utilization of AI systems so that both the public and clinicians can benefit: the public receives information quickly and accurately, while clinicians can provide focused and comprehensive care.
The greatest challenge in this research lies in the development of the Chatbot . (A Chatbot is an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based program that can simulate conversations with other users like humans via messaging applications, websites, mobile apps, or telephone, and can adjust to the public’s readability level). It is recommended that health education materials be at the 8th-grade level (Junior High School) and that the chatbot should also provide persuasive messages encouraging the public to routinely check their oral health. In the future, this prototype can be further developed in collaboration with colleagues from Information Technology to perfect it.
TIMNASS X was organized by Universitas Airlangga, with co-hosts Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and the University of Melbourne (Australia). It featured international speakers from Malaysia, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, and the Philippines, and was attended by participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and India.
