UGM Conservative Dentistry Young Lecturers and Residents Provide Dental Health Services at Jogja Bike Rendezvous

The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), represented by young lecturer drg. Rahmadani Puspitasari, MDSc., and a team of Conservative Dentistry residents, demonstrated their commitment to community service by providing dental health services at the annual Jogja Bike Rendezvous 2024 on 28 September 2024, at Jogja Expo Center (JEC). This initiative aimed to support the dental health of the community, particularly Harley Davidson enthusiasts and event visitors.

The provided dental health services covered various aspects, from screening and dental examinations to detect oral health issues to interactive education on maintaining oral hygiene. This education included proper tooth-brushing techniques and the importance of oral healthcare, especially for physically active individuals. Additionally, participants had the opportunity for dental consultations, receiving personalized care recommendations. The team also offered basic dental restoration services, such as fillings for minor cavities, performed on-site using high-quality materials.

drg. Rahma, as a young lecturer, stated, "We hope that through this service, the community will become more aware of the importance of maintaining oral and dental health as part of a healthy lifestyle." The enthusiasm for this program was evident from the number of participants who took advantage of the dental health services, from examinations to consultations. One participant, Hendra (40), expressed, "This event is very beneficial. Besides having direct consultations, I also learned how to properly maintain oral health, something I often overlooked."

Through this event, FKG UGM not only made a direct impact on the community but also reinforced the role of academics in community service. It is hoped that similar activities will continue as part of FKG UGM’s commitment to supporting public health in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas.

This initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by ensuring better access to dental health services and raising awareness of the importance of oral care.
