FKG UGM Lecturer Nominated for Best Poster Presentation at International Periodontics Seminar in Hanoi

Hanoi, 17-18 October 2024The 15th Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology (APSP) Meeting , held in Hanoi, Vietnam, brought together experts and students in the field of periodontology from across the Asia-Pacific region. This annual international seminar serves as a platform for professionals and academics to exchange knowledge and update scientific progress in periodontal education and research.

This year, the delegation from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), attending the conference included two lecturers and nine residents from the Periodontology Specialist Program.

Their participation in this prestigious event highlights the university's commitment to advancing quality education and ongoing research in periodontology, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education.

A key highlight of the APSP meeting was the success of Dr. drg. Dahlia Herawati, SU., Sp.Perio., SubSp.R.P.I.D (K), a lecturer from the Periodontology Specialist Program at FKG UGM, who was nominated among the top 10 best poster presentations.

Dr. Dahlia’s poster, titled “CYP19 Gene Expression in Aggressive Periodontitis Under Stimulation with Vitamin D and/or Dexamethasone,” received notable recognition. This achievement is a proud milestone and reflects Dr. Dahlia’s dedication to periodontal research.

Dr. Dahlia’s research explores the role of the CYP19 gene in aggressive periodontitis, a challenging condition in dental care. By examining the effects of Vitamin D and dexamethasone on this gene’s expression, her study contributes valuable insights into the mechanisms of periodontal disease and potential therapeutic approaches for more effective treatments.

The recognition of Dr. Dahlia’s poster at the APSP conference underscores the importance of research and education in addressing global health challenges, especially in dentistry. This aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes the need for quality education and research to improve health outcomes worldwide.

At the end of the conference, all participants left with new knowledge, inspiration, and renewed commitment to advancing education and research in periodontology. The participation of the UGM delegation, along with Dr. Dahlia’s achievement, highlights the university's active role in shaping the future of periodontology in the Asia-Pacific region.
