UGM FKG Lecturers Explore 3D Printer and Laser Speckle Technology

As technology rapidly advances, its positive impact is felt across various fields, including education and healthcare, especially in dental care.

To keep pace with technological developments and improve educational quality, lecturers from the Department of Dental Conservation at Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM) participated in a training on the use of 3D Printers and Laser Speckle technology on 9 August 2024. The training was held at the Integrated Research Laboratory of FKG UGM, as part of the university’s efforts to remain at the forefront of dental technology innovation.

The training was attended by drg. Rahmadani Puspitasari, MDSc., representing the Department of Dental Conservation at FKG UGM. The primary focus of the training was mastering 3D Printer technology, which allows for the precise creation of scaffolds used in dental tissue regeneration. “With 3D Printer technology, we can create custom-designed materials that support new tissue growth, addressing more specific clinical needs,” explained drg. Rahmadani.

In addition to 3D Printer technology, participants were introduced to Laser Speckle technology, used to monitor blood flow in newly formed tissue during treatment. This technology is expected to enhance the success of endodontic procedures. Drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration at FKG UGM, remarked, “Mastering technologies like 3D Printers and Laser Speckle enables us to not only improve clinical services but also strengthen research and education in dentistry.”

As technology continues to evolve in healthcare, utilizing advanced tools such as 3D Printers and Laser Speckle is a crucial step toward advancing more precise and effective dental practices. This training aligns with FKG UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), by continuously updating the knowledge and skills of faculty and educators.
