Faculty of Dentistry UGM Lecturers Deepen Knowledge in Digital Implantology at Yonsei University

Two lecturers from the Department of Periodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), participated in the  Advanced Prosthodontics and Implant Maintenance Course , held at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, from 4 to 11 April 2025. This international training was organized through a collaboration between the Indonesian Prosthodontic Society (IPROSI) and the Department of Prosthodontics, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University.

The participants from FKG UGM were Drg. Kwartarini Murdiastuti, Sp.Perio Sub Sp. R.P.I.D (K), Ph.D., and Drg. Mentari Salma Nurbaiti, Sp.Perio. They joined an intensive training program designed for lecturers, specialists, and residents in Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from various dental education institutions in Indonesia.

The training covered essential topics in modern implantology, with a particular focus on the integration of digital technology in diagnosis, planning, and implant restoration. Participants explored the use of CAD/CAM technology, intraoral scanning, Exoplan and Exocad software, 3D printing, digital smile design, and peri-implantitis case management.

Learning methods included lectures, case discussions,hands-onsessions, and clinical observation at Yonsei University Dental Hospital. Participants also had the opportunity to visit two leading technology companies: Medit, a developer of intraoral scanners, and Osstem, a manufacturer of dental implants and bone graft materials. These visits provided direct insight into production processes and innovations in digital dental technology.

The program aimed to equip participants with applied and contextual understanding of digital workflows in implantology. This knowledge serves as a valuable foundation for developing specialist education curricula, enhancing technology-based clinical services, and strengthening interdisciplinary research aligned with modern patient needs.

“This program has greatly broadened our perspective on technological advancements in implantology. Through hands-on sessions and industry visits, we gained a concrete understanding of how technologies such as intraoral scanners and digital design tools are applied in clinical practice. It’s a valuable asset for both our academic and clinical environments,” said drg. Mentari Salma Nurbaiti.

By staying up-to-date with scientific and technological developments through global collaboration, FKG UGM reaffirms its role as an adaptive and innovative dental education institution, ready to meet the challenges of digital-era dental care.
