In today’s digital era, leveraging technology likeArtificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly vital for driving innovation across various fields, including dentistry. AI has the potential not only to simplify learning but also to enhance education quality by offering more interactive and efficient teaching methods.
Lecturers from the Department of Dental Biomaterials (IBKG), Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), participated in AI training for developing online classes on 22 August 2024. The training, held online by the Directorate of Academic Development and Innovation at UGM, featured experienced speakers from the university.
The hands-on session was led by Harry Freitag LM, M.Sc., Ph.D., who demonstrated how to use AI platforms, such as ChatGPT, for creating learning materials, designing assessments, and generating new, innovative classroom ideas. “With AI, we can create more dynamic and engaging classes for students, making learning more effective,” said drg. Mutiara Annisa.
Participants also learned how to use AI for developing educational media such as presentations, videos, and reading materials. Integrating AI is expected to significantly transform teaching methods, particularly in dentistry.
By participating in this activity, FKG UGM supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), by optimizing digital technology to improve education quality and foster technology-driven innovation. Through this training, educators are encouraged to harness AI to create more effective, relevant, and engaging learning environments for students, preparing them to face the challenges of the digital era.
