Writing scientific articles often presents its own challenges for postgraduate students. Many have strong research results but experience difficulty in translating them into publishable articles. This issue became the focus of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) UGM during the Postgraduate Academic Support Activity held on Friday (31/10/2025).
The event featured Dr. drg. Ananto Ali Alhasyimi, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K), as the keynote speaker. He delivered material on Research and Publication Mentoring for Postgraduate Students of FKG UGM. Through this session, Ananto emphasized the importance of scientific writing skills as part of a continuous academic process.
“When a graduate is already accustomed to scientific writing, they will not face difficulties at the next level in producing high-quality scientific work,” he stated.
Ananto also explained various research grants that students can access, such as the FKG UGM Community Fund Grant, the UGM Final Project Recognition Grant, and the Simlitabmas/BIMA Grant. These programs are expected to assist students in completing their research while also encouraging scientific publication in reputable journals.
In addition to discussing funding, he highlighted graduation requirements for postgraduate students, particularly the obligation to publish in reputable international journals or indexed proceedings. According to him, publication is not merely an administrative requirement, but a form of academic contribution to disseminating valuable knowledge.
On the same occasion, Ananto reminded students to be cautious of predatory journals, which charge publication fees without conducting proper peer review. He advised students to always verify a journal’s reputation before submitting manuscripts and to take advantage of faculty facilities such as similarity index checks, language editing services, and publication acceleration programs.
This academic support activity is part of FKG UGM’s commitment to enhancing the quality of research and scientific publications within the postgraduate environment. Through continuous mentoring, it is hoped that students will not only complete their studies on time, but also produce scientific works that are beneficial to the wider community.
