Every dental procedure relies heavily on instruments and materials used by dentists. Yet, not many people are aware of how these instruments are produced, distributed, and eventually made available for clinical use. As part of its commitment to promoting experiential learning, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), facilitated a factory visit to the warehouse of PT Cobra Dental on Tuesday (10/6).
The visit was attended by drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration at FKG UGM, along with Dr. drg. Rurie Ratna Shantiningsih, MDSc., Head of the Dentist Profession Education Program. On this occasion, Drg. Trianna expressed appreciation to PT Cobra Dental for its ongoing collaboration.
“We would like to thank Cobra Dental for providing scholarships to our dentist profession education students, and we hope activities like this can be expanded to further support comprehensive student learning,” said Trianna.
The program involved ten students of the Dentist Profession Education Program, all scholarship recipients from PT Cobra Dental, representing cohorts 78 to 83.
One of the participants, Aini Hasibah Ningtyas, shared that the visit broadened her perspective on the importance of proper distribution procedures for medical devices. “We learned how the instruments we use during clinical rotations are supplied and handled. It turns out the process is much more complex than we imagined,” Aini said.
As a scholarship recipient, she also highlighted how the support helped reduce the financial burden of education, particularly for purchasing instruments and practice materials. “I am truly grateful for this scholarship. With the high cost of dental professional education, this support is very meaningful,” she added.
During the visit, students were welcomed by Mr. Anggit, Head of Sales for Central Java and Yogyakarta, who explained the principles of CDAKB (Cara Distribusi Alat Kesehatan yang Baik / Good Distribution Practices for Medical Devices) and relevant Ministry of Health regulations. Students also had the opportunity to tour the warehouse and witness demonstrations of the latest technologies, including the air polisher scaler, handpiece lubricant device, and intraoral scanner.
