FKG UGM’s Department of Biomedicine Holds Community Service in Banyumas

Banyumas – The Department of Biomedicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), together with the Master’s Program in Clinical Dentistry (IKGK), Purwokerto Eye Hospital, and the Gadjah Mada Alumni Family (KAGAMA) Banyumas, held a community service program at MI Ma’arif NU Pesawahan, Rawalo District, Banyumas Regency, on Thursday (12 June 2025).

Carrying the theme “Healthy Body, Smart Nutrition, Guaranteed Achievement!”, the event was part of UGM’s regular community service agenda, reflecting the university’s tangible contribution to improving quality of life and public health, especially in rural areas.

The team departed from Yogyakarta with three FKG UGM ELF minibuses and one vehicle from Purwokerto Eye Hospital. They were warmly welcomed by the MI Ma’arif NU Pesawahan community, including school leaders, foundation board members, and KAGAMA Banyumas representatives.

MI Principal Mr. Darsino, S.Pd., expressed his appreciation for the visit from FKG UGM and its partners. He hoped similar initiatives would continue in the future.

“We are ready to serve as a living laboratory for FKG UGM in both educational and community service activities. This is a great honor for our school,” said Darsino.

Meanwhile, KH Habib Mahfud, S.Ag., caretaker of Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School, shared the story of how the madrasah was built from scratch through community efforts. Currently, they are working on constructing 12 new classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students.

“We are building with determination and prayers. We ask for continued support from all who care about children’s education,” said KH Habib.

In his remarks, FKG UGM Dean Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., emphasized that the visit was not incidental but the beginning of long-term cooperation.

“This program is not a one-time visit but will be scheduled regularly as part of our commitment to serving the community,” affirmed Prof. Suryono.

Also present was Anton Adi Wahyono, Daily Chair of KAGAMA Banyumas, representing the regional chair. He expressed pride in the synergy between UGM, alumni, and local institutions in Banyumas.

The event concluded with a symbolic handover of mementos and plaques from the Dean of FKG UGM to the Principal of MI Ma’arif NU Pesawahan, the Chair of the Miftahul Huda Foundation, representatives of Purwokerto Eye Hospital, and the Chair of KAGAMA Banyumas.

This community service initiative is expected to serve as a stepping stone for sustainable collaboration among higher education institutions, hospitals, and pesantren-based schools in building a stronger health and education ecosystem in the Barlingmascakeb region.
