Oral Biology

Oral Biology deals with the characteristics of oral-craniofacial tissues and the application of basic scientific knowledge about normal and pathological oral tissues. In the field of Oral Biology, a distinctive combination of oral-craniofacial structure, tissue types, and complex functions is merged with basic science disciplines from a unique perspective to achieve goals in improving new and adequate methods for managing, curing, or preventing diseases. The Oral Biology Department is responsible for research and education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Theory, case studies, and interactive activities are prioritized as learning methods, covering areas such as oral immunology, growth and development of oral-facial structures including oral tissue structure and function, as well as interactions with other body organs under normal and/or pathological conditions, wound healing and tissue repair, dental caries biology, etiology of periodontal diseases, oral molecular and cellular biology. This course encourages active participation of students in examining scientific articles as the basis for paradigm shifts in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Scientific review sessions and problem-solving are conducted by students and challenge their abilities to engage in leading oral health research. Additionally, sustained innovative methods to acquire extensive information will encourage students to become lifelong learners.

Head of the Department: Dr. drg. Alma Linggar Jonarta, M.Kes.
