UGM continues to strengthen its position as a world-class university. This was evidenced by the working visit of the Faculty of Dentistry delegation to three prestigious dental education institutions in the world: the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), the Department of Dentistry University of Groningen (UoG), and the Department of Oral Health Sciences Katholique University of Leuven (KUL) from 2-6 October 2023.
The delegation from the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) was led by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D., along with several other members including the Chair of the Bachelor's Program in Dental Medicine (drg. Aryan Morita, M.Sc., Ph.D), Chair of the Professional Program in Dentistry (Dr. drg. Rurie Ratna Shantningsih, MDSc), and Chair of the ASIIN Task Force (drg. Heribertus Dedy Kusuma Yulianto, M.Biotech., Ph.D).
According to drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D., the visit aimed to benchmark and explore potential collaborations in academic fields such as joint lectures, student exchanges, double degrees, and exploration of research themes with potential for joint research. Specifically, this visit also aimed to align the undergraduate and professional dental curriculum with opening international classes in the Dental Medicine Bachelor's Program in the academic year 2024/2025 while enhancing the reputation of FKG UGM on the global stage. Simultaneously, this visit serves as preparation for the upcoming international accreditation by ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) in 2024. The hope is that this visit will strengthen the existing collaborations with these three highly-ranked universities, according to the QS World University Ranking.
Meanwhile, Prof. Bart van Meerbeck from Katholique University Leuven and Prof. Henri J. Lohr from the University of Groningen welcomed the collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry UGM. There will be follow-up actions for students from KUL and UoG to gain experience at FKG UGM through student exchange programs and vice versa. Prof. Yuelian from ACTA also supports continued collaboration with FKG UGM and welcomes the potential for sharing knowledge in Dentistry.
This visit aims to achieve high-quality education, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education. May FKG UGM continue to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.
