Dean of FKG UGM Attends the Opening of the 80th Dies Natalis Series of FKKMK UGM, Marked by the Planting of a “Sawo Kecik” Tree

The Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKKMK UGM), officially opened the series of events commemorating its 80th Dies Natalis on 17 October 2025. The event was held in a warm atmosphere together with the academic community of UGM’s health cluster and the leadership of teaching hospitals.

The event was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry UGM, as well as the directors of UGM Academic Hospital (RSA UGM), Dr. Sardjito General Hospital (RSUP Dr. Sardjito), and Banyumas Regional General Hospital (RSUD Banyumas). The presence of faculty and hospital leaders reaffirmed the close collaboration in advancing national health education and services.

In his remarks, the Dean of FKKMK UGM expressed gratitude for the long journey of the faculty, which for eight decades has contributed to educating the nation and advancing public health. “This journey is grounded in the spirit of continuous learning, sowing virtue, and nurturing hope for the future,” he stated.

Planting of the “Sawo Kecik” Tree

As a symbol of commitment to sustainability and virtuous values, the opening of the Dies Natalis was marked by the planting of a Sawo Kecik tree. This tree originates from the philosophy of “Sarwo Becik,” meaning all goodness.
The symbolic meanings of the tree were also explained:

  • Strong roots — symbolizing deep wisdom
  • A sturdy trunk — reflecting resilience and endurance
  • Sweet fruit — symbolizing benefits and goodness for society

These symbols align with UGM’s identity: deeply rooted, reaching high, and bearing abundant fruit. “May, at the age of 80, the faculty become increasingly mature, strong, and provide broader benefits to the nation,” added the Dean of FKKMK.

Health Cluster Collaboration

The event proceeded warmly and in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting the strength of synergy within UGM’s health cluster together with its teaching hospitals. Laughter and a sense of togetherness colored the opening ceremony despite the bright and hot weather. This inauguration marked the starting point of the 80th Dies Natalis series of FKKMK UGM, which will be filled with academic programs, community service, health innovations, as well as green campus and sustainability activities.
